Massage Therapy and the Transgender Client
Everyone deserves the same quality of health care. Massage Therapists have a chance to make a difference. Not only can we help to reduce some of the physical and emotional stress that many transgender people face, we can also work together to create an environment that is comfortable, welcoming, and nurturing to all people. Awareness of transgender issues is coming to the forefront every day, in pop culture and in media, in real life, and in health care, too. The New York Times recently reported that the transgender population has doubled (to nearly 1.4 million adults) since 2011. Greater numbers of people identifying as transgender are seeking out health care, yet healthcare providers are challenged to provide equal and unbiased care to their transgender patients. It is the goal of this workshop to provide Massage Therapists and Integrative Bodywork professionals the training to meet the needs of transgender clients and to create a practice that is LGBTQ/Transgender friendly and safe.
